TRU Movmnt Afterschool

Mission Statement

TRU Movmnt Afterschool is about allowing our children to explore, apply and play with Tangible, Relevant and Universal movement patterns. We’re about helping our children develop movement curiosity and creativity, understanding that they are only limited by their imagination. We at TRU Movmnt wish to foster a lifelong love for movement.

Activities:
• Speed of Light Track Club (SOLTC)
• Sport Sword (Martial Arts)
• Fight Play (Fight Choreography)

Speed of Light Track Club
The goal of Track is to develop the athletic potential of your children through various activities and training methods. We want our young people to enjoy their athletic endeavors and to grow into strong, competent athletes. The focus will be on learning how to run properly, addressing running form, lower limb stability, and strength development. Furthermore, your children will develop a love for the art of running. Track is a semi-competitive as well as a recreational club. Throughout the season there will be events of various different levels that are open to all who wish to compete. No one is required to compete.

*SOLTC meets three days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Sport Sword
Sport Sword is based on the Japanese art “Chanbara”, created nearly 50 years ago. Chanbara is heavily influenced by the traditional Japanese sword arts of Iaido and Kendo. In Sport Sword, we use foam swords to teach martial concepts such as focus, discipline, respect, technique, and confidence. The primary focus of Sport Sword is to teach your child the importance of self-control, and the proper and safe use of the soft swords, allowing students to train at full speed.

*Sport Sword meets twice a week on Monday and Friday.

Fight Play
Using swordplay the focus will be on learning how to stage a choreographed fight scene. Through Fight Play, students will learn how to work cooperatively with partners to tell a compelling movement story. Through this, they will develop greater awareness, timing, patience, and confidence in their spatial understanding of their surrounding environment. The skills your children will learn will culminate in an end-of-season performance piece that will be shared with the families.

*Fight Play meets twice a week on Monday and Friday.
