Hello EVCS Parent Association Members,
Way to go to all of us who managed to get our kids to school in the loose vicinity of on-time, with clothing on, two shoes (matching or not), found our teachers and classrooms and bestowed our awesome kids to EVCS for what looks to be a dynamite year! It is not always easy, but we’re off to a great start!
The Parent Association would like to extend a big huge warm welcome (back) to all our members. As a person with a child attending EVCS, you are automatically a member of the Parent Association. You’re in! Congratulations!
You will be hearing more from us in the next weeks, but we would like to get a few important dates and ideas afloat.
Sept. 20th: First Exec Board Meeting. 8:45-10:00am

Hello EVCS Families,
This Thursday 6/21, instead of our final PA General meeting, is our Annual Staff Appreciation Party! Please come help celebrate and thank our teachers, administration and support staff to salute their hard work and the fantastic year we’ve had at EVCS.
The Party will be held at The Roost, 222 Avenue B, 5:30-7:30pm in the back room. It’s a cash bar for beer and wine, we’ll have snacks (we, the PA, will be buying the staff’s well earned libations).
Childcare for current EVCS students is available, RSVP Here
Come toast our teachers and ourselves for a heck-of-a-year at EVCS!
See you there,
EVCS PA Exec. Board
Hello EVCS Parents,
This year’s final regular General PA meeting is Wed. May 23rd 8:40AM. It will be held in David and Clara’s Kindergarten Classroom, on the 2nd floor.
On the Agenda:
We will be voting for next year’s Executive Board officers: President, Treasurer, Secretary. I hate to get all dire, but if these positions are not filled the Parents Association will have to fold, as in, cease to exist. We need people to step up and nominate themselves! Especially for President.
Meet and Hear from District 1 Superintendent, Carry Chan!
Our new District Superintendent, Carry Chan, will be at our meeting to introduce herself and to hear from us parents at EVCS. Specifically she is eager to hear our thoughts about D1 middle schools, and what an “ideal” middle school would look like to our families.
This is a fantastic chance to let the Superintendent know what is important to you and what would be most desirable in a middle school. This is an especially great opportunity for families with 5th, 4th and 3rd grade students. Here are some things to think about before Wednesday’s meeting:
Hi Parents and Caregivers,
This Wednesday (3/26) morning is our March PA Meeting! 8:45 am in the auditorium.
If you can’t make it, the most important thing you need to know is that our Spring Gala is April 28th and we urgently need item donations for the Silent Auction! (online donation form).
We count on the funds we raise at the Gala to pay for so much of the great enrichments the PA supports at EVCS. The Silent Auction is how we raise this money.
This year’s “Free To Be…” Gala is free entry IF you RSVP in advance, otherwise $10 at the door. (RSVP here)
See you Wednesday!
Your PA Exec

The Battle of the District 1 Bands is ON!
Get your sitter lined up, ‘cause on March 4th at the New Time: 4:30-7:30PM EVCS’s Family Band will be going up against 3 other District 1 family Bands for the title, trophy and glory! The event will be held at Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey. Tickets $20. 21+. (Proceeds will be split between the participating band’s schools.) Buy Tickets here
The 3 School New Bottle Filling Water Fountain Project took a great leap forward.
On Tuesday of this week the three schools’ building wellness committee met with a CWS parent and former DEP deputy commissioner to discuss water and fountain options. He offered a great deal of insight and information about NYC water quality, talked about potential sources of lead in water and gave clarity to the filtered vs unfiltered discussion. It was a relief to learn that NYC continues to have some of the cleanest municipal water in the world (!) and that the risk of a child getting lead poisoning or even elevated lead in their system from drinking water from any NYC public building is basically nil. The committee agreed that we will adjust our objective and pursue getting unfiltered units installed. Since the DOE and DEP considered filtered units unnecessary and are actually against installing them in schools, our requisite for them was holding us up. Changing the type of station we are trying get here removes a big obstacle to getting them!
Hello EVCS PA Parents,
We held our January PA meeting last Wednesday, Here is a re-cap:
Mathnasium Game Night! this Wednesday evening (1/31).

FUN-draising! going on:

The EVCS PA Executive Board
Hello EVCS PA Member Families,
Once again, we parents stepped up and showed what a creative, fun, generous and devoted bunch we are. The Fall Ball was a huge success! There are way way too many people to thank, really, nearly every EVCS family and many of the staff, in some way, had a hand in this. From the planning, building, baking, cooking and decorating, to the crafts, games, trick-or-treating, dance party and the incredible haunted house, to serving food, manning tables, selling tickets, and cleaning up the whole thing, we certainly came through! Everybody who contributed deserves a giant thank you! We, especially, need to call out Hagit and Noel, our Events Co-Chairs, for taking the reigns on the entire beast. The kids had a blast, thank you, All!
We also thank MFTA, Material For The Arts Located in LIC.
A great group of pumpkins were entered in the Carving Contest. The 1st prize went to Nina in 4th Grade with her rat infested jack-o-lantern. 2nd place went to Alex Yakov in 5th Grade with his zombie pumpkin. Adele in 2nd grade and her sister Anna in K made a lit up jack-o-lantern and Yan from 3rd grade’s pumpkin had a giant spider crawling on top. Thank you so much to the contestants and to all the children and families that voted!
Hi EVCS Families,
In case you had to miss our General PA meeting last Wed. (and the quick Fall Ball meeting after) here’s a recap:
We approved our 2017-18 PA Budget!
This year the PA will be helping fund so many great things at school. The South Street Seaport Partnership, the Recess enhancement program, Dancing classrooms, Chess, Alvin Ailey, Rock Band and much more. Also a big change this year, the PA will be funding the individual Classroom Accounts (aka SAC) which will pay for each classroom’s in-class project work and field trips. In previous years these accounts were funded directly by the classes’ families, this year all classrooms will be funded equitably by the whole PA. This is lining up to be a great and exciting year for our kids!
That said, we, the PA, are called upon to raise these funds. We will do this through direct family contributions, grade-wide bake sales, our fun annual Events, grant applications and other smaller fundraising ventures. We discussed at the meeting that the best way to contribute directly to the Family Fund is by check (or online bank transfer), to save on fees.
We also want to remind families that whether or not you are able to contribute money, the PA always needs contributions of your input, time and sweat equity at all of our events and sales. There are many many ways to help support our school.
We elected 4 new members to our School Leadership Team and we voted in a Co-Treasurer.
Thank you to Anne Buovolo, Cresta Kruger, Melanie Kletter, and Katie Pawluk for joining the SLT this year and representing all of us parents. And thank-you to Kama Geary for stepping up to help with the PA book-keeping!
Help for Puerto Rico.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (10/3 & 10/4) of this week EVCS will be collecting much needed goods for Puerto Rico.
Please bring donations of Diapers • Baby Food • Batteries • First Aid Supplies • Feminine hygiene products. *Only new and unopened items can be accepted. Parent volunteers (Ron B. and Jenny K.) will be stationed with vehicles near the double gates at the end of the closed school yard, towards Avenue C. Once collected, donations will be brought to the Fire House on East 2nd Street.
