Dear EVCS Families,

We had an energized week at EVCS! The wheels are turning and progress is happening on all fronts. Keep up the good work. Thank you all for being diligent each morning by checking in on your child’s health and keeping them home when they are not feeling 100%.

Our core value is social action! Our 5th graders have been doing a virtual residency with the Service Learning Project, which works with students to identify an issue, research and learn about it, and then choose an action to take. Ruth’s class chose to address issues of sexism and the gender wage gap, Jenna’s class chose the issue of LGBTQ+ rights, and Lauryn’s class chose climate change. Each class worked together to develop an action, and they would love your support! Please have a look at their projects and support their initiatives by signing their petitions, buying a T-shirt and deepening your own awareness.

Jenna’s class: LGBTQ+ Rights Petition and Tshirt Fundraiser

Summer Rising Program 2021

Dear EVCS Families,

Monday the DOE opened up the application portal for Summer Rising program. We have not received much detail on exactly what the program will consist of yet – though we do know that it will be Monday – Friday, from July 6 – August 20, and the plan is for academics from 8:00 a.m. -12 noon, and then social and enrichment activities with a CBO partner organization from 12 noon – 6:00 p.m. We will be collaborating with PS 110 and PS 134, and our program will be located at the PS 110 building on Delancey Street.

You can find more information and apply to the program on the Summer Rising page of the DOE website, though you will notice that our school’s program is not yet listed on the site yet. We have been assured by the DOE that it will be added soon. In the meantime, you should take these key steps in preparation for summer school enrollment:

· Complete this Summer Rising interest survey, which will allow someone to contact you to let you know when the PS 110 site has been added and to help you through the registration process; and

· Create an account on the discoverDYCD site. This will allow you to receive weekly emails from DYCD letting them know which programs have been added.

As we receive more information, we will be sure to share it with you.

All the best,
James
