READING OLYMPICS 2018 IS HERE!

Reading-Olympics 1

READING OLYMPICS 2018 STARTS MONDAY!

Dear EVCS Families,

The winter Olympics may be over, but the EVCS READING OLYMPICS is just beginning! (for new families- the Reading Olympics is a month long read-a-thon in which kids get sponsors who will give them money for the books they read all month long)

On Monday, March 5, your children will come home with a manila envelope and the Reading Olympics sponsor sheet and reading log. On the back will be everything you need to know to help your child participate in this wonderful fundraiser that gets our kids READING! The envelope is for collecting donations. Sponsor sheets and envelopes will be collected April 9. (you can also collect donations online, btw- it’s all explained on the sheets coming home).

So please look out for the READING OLYMPICS materials coming home Monday!

Happy Reading,
Allison Gordon (mom of Elias- 4th grade)

D1 Battle of the Family Bands

Dear EVCS Family,

I really hope you’ll join us for what is guaranteed to be a memorable event. This Sunday marks the first (hopefully annual) District 1 Battle of the Family Bands at the world famous Bowery Ballroom.

There will be four schools participating in the event: The Earth School, PS 110, Orchard Collegiate Academy, and of course EVCS. We have a fantastic MC named Emily Panic (former touring member of bands Foxygen and Phenomenal Handclap band, as well as the host of Max Fish’s Sunday Roast Comedy nights), and we will have a panel of celebrity judges, TBA. The winning band will get to take home a fabulous trophy and will have District 1 bragging rights – both of which I want desperately.

The EVCS Family Band has been rehearsing and I think we have a real shot at D1 glory. The band is made up of parents Martha Hornthal, Cresta Kruger, Steve Shiffman, Brad Worrell, Kevin Colden, James Askew, PT Walkley, and Kelland Thomas, music teacher Terry Campbell, and yours truly. Come support us!

Here are the details:

Sunday, March 4, 2018
The Bowery Ballroom: 6 Delancey Street
Doors: 4pm / Show 4:30pm -7:30pm
Tickets: $20
Adults Only (21+)

You can buy tickets from James in the yard (cash only), at the venue, or with PayPal here.

We realize that 4:30 is kind of a lame time for a rock show, but Sunday night also happens to be the Oscars, and we want to make sure everyone is home in time to catch the red carpet action. And please note that this event is just for the grown ups.

The Battle of the Family Bands is a fund raiser for all of the schools involved, but more importantly it is a community building event intended to build bridges between schools in our District. And it’s going to be really fun(ny). I hope to see you there!

Thank You

exploding thermoDear All,

Thank you. We have not just met our goal for family contributions – we have exceeded it. In fact, to date The EVCS PA has raised $46,545 from family donations. What an amazing way to start 2018!

Because of your support our 4th and 5th graders are sailing with the South Street Seaport Museum, 2nd, 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to learn and improve their chess skills, all of our kids are heading out on regular field trips without having to pay any fees and so much more – click HERE to see exactly what the PA Funds that you provided support.

From now until June you can expect emails from us to focus on fun events like The District One Battle of the Bands, The Spring Gala and Auction, FleaVCS in Tompkins Square Park and more movie nights.

We are ALWAYS looking for volunteers so if you are interested in getting to know more people in our community, helping out and having fun, please email parents@evcsnyc.org to add yourself to the volunteer email list. Signing up does not commit you for anything, it just means you will be the first one we reach out to when we need help. We hope hundreds of people will sign up and especially families who are new to our community.

Wishing everyone peace and prosperity in the New Year and lots more mingling now that we are back to arrival and dismissal in the school yard.

Warmly,
Nina & Nandi
