EVCS needs you – (FUN)draising!

Dear Families,

The EVCS Parent Association raises money to enrich the experiences our kids have at school every day. We raise money for field trips so that no student is ever asked to pay a fee and for arts programs like dance with Alvin Ailey, music with Third Street Music School and all school assemblies with Jazz at Lincoln Center. And there is so much more – take a look at the list of what our Parent Association has approved to cover this school year.

In order to pay for these incredible programs, we need to raise $45,000 by December 31st from direct family contributions. If you can, we are asking each family to contribute $500. Please know that all donations are anonymous and tax-deductible and every donation, at every amount, will get us closer to our goal.

Thank you, we look forward to a fun-filled school year together!
— The EVCS Fundraising Committee

P.S. The Fundraising Committee is looking for help – there are lots of ways to get involved and you don’t need to offer a ton of time to be a ton of help. Please reply to this email if you are interested in joining in the FUN(draising)!

FleaVCS Needs You!

Dear EVCS Families,

Do you have a bag of clothes waiting to be donated? Have you gotten out the summer clothes only to realize they no longer fit? Did you get on a Marie Kondo kick recently and empty out your wardrobe? Good news….

On May 18th we will be holding FleaVCS, an adult and kids clothing swap as well as a bike and scooter swap! Free to enter, $10 to fill a bag with clothes – all are welcome and proceeds go to the EVCSPA. We will also have the EVCS drum line, recycled art projects and puppets and food vendors!

We realize that there may be a lot of questions, see the FAQ below.

Sparking Joy,
The Fundraising Team

Where and when is this event taking place?
In the EVCS yard on 12th street between Ave B and Ave C on Saturday May 18th at 12 noon – 4PM

What donations are you looking for?
Clean kids and adult clothes, belts and hand bags in good shape. Also scooters and bikes of all sizes (better if they work, if they need small repairs bring them and we will try to have them fixed on the spot).

How will the bike and scooter swap work?
It’s like that change bowl you see at the register sometimes that says “have a penny, leave a penny, need a penny, take a penny”. So, it’s not a perfect one to one swap, only bring bikes and scooters you want to get rid of. If you are looking for something you can let us know and we will try to find it for you but no guarantees.

My closets are literally busting at the seems, when can I drop donations off?
We are sorry, ours are too, just a bit longer… drop offs will begin on May 13th in the yard – you can donate during school drop off and pick up for the entire week or you can bring donations on the day of the event.

Will this be a free event?
Yes, free to enter and $10 to fill a bag to the brim with clothes. We will be selling recycled paper bags or you can bring your own bag to fill. All proceeds go to the EVCS PA.

Can I bring shoes?
Um, no – that just gets too complicated and heavy. Sorry. But please recycle your shoes.

Can I bring toys or furniture or other stuff?
No, please leave that at home too.

What will the kids do during the day of the event?
They can help find and sort clothes, play on the playground, work on recycled art projects, listen to the drum line, interact with large paper mache puppets,… will be fun!

What if it rains?
It still happens, we will just move it indoors to cafeteria, auditorium and lobby.

Can people outside of EVCS donate and come?
Yes, we want this to be a community event! Please help us spread the word.

This is so cool, can I help?
Yes, we will need lots of volunteers starting at 10AM to help us sort the clothes on the morning of the event – please email fundraising@evcsnyc.org to let us know if you can help.

Last week of Reading Olympics!

Hi Everyone,

While we wait for the weather to warm up a bit, staying in with a good book is a great way to spend the afternoon!
This is the last week to complete those reading logs and get donations from sponsors. We will be collecting all your envelopes from teachers on Monday, March 25. Remember to try and complete the PRINCIPAL’S CHALLENGE for reading diverse books by diverse authors. (There is a special prize for you if you do!)

And remember, if you need more sponsors, you can email friends and family with THIS LINK to get donations online.

Thanks everyone and Happy Reading!

Reading Olympics week 2!

I hope you all enjoyed the snow day yesterday and that some of you spent it curled up with a good book 🙂

Just a friendly reminder to keep on reading and logging and getting sponsors for the READING OLYMPICS! A great way to get sponsors is to email friends and relatives or post on social media. Here is the link you can send to people so they can sponsor your kids online: https://evcsnyc.org/2019/03/sponsor-a-student-for-reading-olympics/

Dear All,

We need to raise $20,000 at the Gala to fund the arts programming, class trips and special events that we have come to value as part of school life at EVCS. Last year, in addition to the silent auction at the Gala, we worked with Charitybuzz to reach our fundraising goal. It was wildly successful, so we are doing it again this year!

Charitybuzz is an online auction site that helps nonprofits raise funds by auctioning VIP experiences and one-of-a-kind items in a variety of genres – music, entertainment, business, politics, sports, art, fashion, travel and more. What is great about Charitybuzz is that the bidders are from all over the world which means that the experiences sold can happen anywhere. The key is these offerings are things that can’t otherwise be bought – like set visits, internships, meetings with CEOs, seats to live taped television shows, backstage passes, VIP tours, etc. Please take a moment to check out their site. And, if you have suggestions for items that might be a good fit or want to discuss ideas, get in touch.

Exciting news…

Dear All,

We are so close to our goal but we need your help to get all the way there. And from now until the end of the year we have an amazing incentive – a generous anonymous donor has offered to match all donations through Dec 31st up to $4,000. So when you donate $250, our school gets $500. Donate $50 and we get $100. This is the moment – If you haven’t made a donation yet or haven’t passed it on to your family now is the time!

It is our generous family community that makes it possible to have a marching band lead the way at the Harvest Festival, to have our kids dancing with Alvin Ailey and singing at Carnegie Hall. And there is so much more…. like did you know that it’s the Parent Association that pays for periodic school-wide lice checks? We do and trust us, you want that. So make your donation today!

Thank you,
EVCS Fundraising Committee
