Dear EVCS Parents and Guardians,

It was great to see some of you at the Zoom PA meeting this week.
The EVCS Parent Association elections were successful, and I am happy to report that we have a full working board. They will share out notes and details soon. If you missed this month, no worries there will be more! We are still learning how to do this Zoom business and it takes time. You can find PA General Meeting dates posted on the EVCS Calendar here.

Monthly minutes are historically posted to the website here. Please give it some time for the info to get compiled and posted from the recent meeting.

Standing Committees
The executive board includes, as well, the chairs of our standing committees which are Communications, Fundraising, Events, Diversity & Inclusions, Social Action, Green and the Class Parent Liaison. If you are interested in or have questions about joining -or being a chair- for any of these committees please email papresident@evcsnyc.org. We need your continued support!

Remember every parent and/or guardian of an EVCS student is automatically a member of the Parent Association. There is a monthly General PA meeting. This is the one risk free way we can stay connected as a community. The next General PA Meeting will be Wednesday, November 18, save the date!
Monthly meeting details arrive from the papresident@evcsnyc.org.

Grade Directory & Class/Grade Parents
Our PA is gathering contact information for a Grade Directory!
Please respond to this survey, it’s really short, if you want to be included AND if you are interested in being a class parent this year.

We need at least one volunteer from each class on-a-grade to help by being a Class/ Grade Parent. More details around this will be forthcoming from the PA.

The job and responsibilities of Class/Grade Parents will be a little different this year, but at the core they will be the same and are vital for our school community. Class Parents will work together to set up a means of communicating amongst class families (who opt in) on their grade level.
Class parent volunteer sign-up is within this directory survey here!

Let’s see what is coming up…

EVCS Weekly, Friday, October 5

Dear EVCS Parents and Guardians,

This has been a beautiful week and the kids are beginning to get more familiar with routines both on and off line. Eric held physical education outdoors and practiced safe social distancing on the turf! Many students ate lunch outside and the kids had a great time building with the outdoor blocks in the Tree of Knowing Garden.

Learning Bridges: Information & Overview

Free Child Care Option for Students Enrolled in Blended Learning

***

On behalf of The Office of Community Schools,
NYCDOE The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD)

The DOE and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) are collaborating to launch Learning Bridges – a new program that will provide free child care options for children from 3-K through 8th grade from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on days when they are scheduled for remote learning.

Students must be enrolled in blended learning/hybrid schedules to qualify for this program. (100% remote students are NOT eligible)

The program will be available when in-person classes start, and all students at our school who are enrolled in blended learning are eligible and encouraged to apply. Our site location is hosted by University Settlement Society of New York, located at 611 East 13th Street, one block north of our school building.

See flyer for more information in multiple languages HERE.

To enroll in Learning Bridges, families should fill out the application available here: www.schools.nyc.gov/learningbridges.

Return to school 2020: Blended or Remote Learning, Deadline August 7

Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 4.37.00 PM

This fall, New York City schools will offer a combination of in-person and remote learning. You can choose from two basic options:

1. 100% Remote Learning: Opt-in to have your child learn 100% remotely (all online, from home). To choose this option for your child, fill out and submit the form below. If you are having difficulties completing this form online, call 311.

OR

2. Combination of In-Person and Remote Learning: Your child can follow their school’s schedule, a mix of in-person days at school, and remote learning days from home. To choose this option, no action is needed. We will be in touch about the EVCS schedule and programming plans in the coming weeks.

For more information on the DOE’s plans for blended learning, please visit the Return to School 2020 pages on the DOE website.

Please note:
– The deadline to opt in to 100% remote learning is August 7.

– You will have the ability to switch from blended learning to 100% remote learning, or vice versa, on a quarterly basis once the school year starts.
– Many of the details of what the 100% remote option will entail are not known yet, including whether the students in this category will be taught be EVCS teachers, or teachers from a central pool. We are hoping that these details will be made clear well before the August 7 deadline, and we will make sure to turnkey this information to parents as soon as we know, so you can make an informed choice.

Complete this form to opt in to 100% remote learning this fall.

The next EVCS PA Meeting is currently scheduled for Tuesday, July 28.

EVCS FOOD DRIVE 2020 kicks off this week!

Screen Shot 2020-11-05 at 12.18.56 PM

EVCS FOOD DRIVE 2020!

This year, our annual EVCS Harvest Festival may be less “festive” – but it is incredibly important to continue helping our community!

We will begin to collect food items for Trinity Church to support their Food for the Homeless program. We will deliver these items before the Thanksgiving holiday. Collection Bins will be located on the second floor. Classes will pass by to drop off their contributions on their way to class. Remote students can contribute by dropping off cans on Wednesday at the Lending Library Table details below.

This is more important than ever, as food insecurity has reached a high in NYC. It is also an opportunity to teach our children about food equity.

The EVCS Food Drive gives our students the chance to take action and learn that sometimes in life we are in a position to share, and when we are, it is important to do so. See the attached flyer for more details.

Blended Learning Students
– bring in nonperishable food items to the school – 2nd floor drop off area
between November 2 and November 24.

Fully Remote Learning Students
– bring in nonperishable food items to the Leveled Lending Library
on the first three Wednesdays in November (11:30am – 1:00pm)

Parents/Guardians
– let us know if you can help transport food to the church located on 9th Street and B. We plan to drop off each Friday from now thru November 24 specific dates and folks with a car or bike cart would be ideal and walking carts also work! Many thank in advance if you would like to help with transporting!

Make A Poster!

Calling all Students to help us promote this important community event!
We need Creative Posters for the 2020 Food Drive!
Create your own image and message. Please submit finished pieces by next week Thursday, November 12 to James. Kids posters will be displayed! Encouraging food equity, reminding everyone to give and help when they can!Be Creative and make it your own!

Thank you for being part of this important effort.

Please see the flyer below for more details and information!
