Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is Friday, May 29 – Day 50 of remote learning!

Although this last week of May was short it was very productive! Students are uploading and sharing more than ever. We cannot thank parents enough for the continued support. Teachers have been hosting office hours and students have been able to pop in to live meetings and share or ask questions directly with teachers. Please remember to reach out to us if there is anything we can help you with.

Congratulations to the cast and creative team of EVCS Players Willy Wonka Kids with their movie-musical premiere! It was absolutely fabulous. We were moved and delighted by each and every one of you. Way to go! Thank you to Child’s Play NY for pushing the limits and making it work!

A big thanks to the Parent Association for the “real book initiative”. Orders have been placed for families to receive books just in time for summer!

Next week we are going to have an evening Parent Association meeting on Wednesday, June 3rd at 5:00 p.m. State Senator Brad Hoylman (who represents the East Village area) will be joining the first part of the meeting and parents will be able to ask questions and raise any concerns. We recommend sending your questions ahead of time to papresident@evcsnyc.org. The Zoom meeting link will go out from the PA President – please keep an eye out for the email. We hope you can join us. Minutes from last week are HERE.

How To Talk To Your Child About Math
The Math Collective put together some suggestions for families and caregivers in How To Talk To Your Child About Math. With remote learning, caregivers are more involved in their children’s math work. They also created a table of possible responses to what students might do when solving a math problem. To help families understand the mathematics being taught, there is a brief synopsis of four of the most important big ideas to understand by the end of elementary school.
