September General PA Meeting Recap

mail

Hello EVCS PA Families,

On Wednesday we had our first General PA meeting of the year. Thank you to all who were able to come! For those who couldn’t make it please keep reading for a brief re-cap. You can view the full meeting minutes HERE.

SLT Election
We had 7 fantastic parents volunteer to be our PA reps on the School Leadership Team, each of whom would be a great addition to the SLT! There were 3 vacant seats and Shabnam Faruki, Crystal Perry and Dave Dorrier will be joining PA co-President Heather Hubbs, Abby Rubin, and Craig Harwood on the SLT this year for a 2 year term. Thank you to all who offered their time and ran!

SLT is a DOE mandated committee made up of teachers, admin and parents that meets once a month to discuss school policies. SLT meeting minutes and membership list are posted outside the school office, room 205.

Budget and Capital Expense Approval
We voted to approve this year’s running budget and a capital fund purchase of a replacement digital camera for the 4th grade white board (Promethean). Check the meetings minutes to see the running budget in detail.

Speaking of Budget, the PA and EVCS depends on direct donations from our families to pay for many of the really great things going on at school.

The PA General Fund supports each class and student, helping fund field trips, in-class special project supplies, recess enhancement, music and arts electives and special programming, only-in-NYC partnerships and much more. Family donations to the General Fund can be made in a lump sum or spread out over the year in monthly installments. Some employers will match employee donations. Some grandparents like to kick in too. Can’t hurt to ask.

Not all families can contribute so we ask for $500 per family, if you are able. Of course, any amount is absolutely appreciated and put to good use. Look for the Fundraising committee email soon, or donate HERE. The EVCS PA is a 501c3 charity and all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Fall Ball Oct. 26th
The PA of EVCS hosts its annual monster of a fun Halloween themed carnival on Saturday Oct. 26th. This event needs help from just about every single EVCS parent to make it a success. You can sign up to help HERE. This event is searching for a co-chair to share the overseeing duties with Nina Ablan! The first planning meeting was after drop off this morning, but if you missed this fist meeting and can help out in the planning phase, please email events@evcsnyc.org.

Committees in Need of Chairpeople
Several of our Committees are in need of chair-people or co-chairs. Fundraising, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Events (Fall Ball and Spring Gala), the Social Action Committee and the Green and Wellness Committee all need parents to step up and help head them. PA Committees are a great way to learn how the PA functions and participate at school in a significant, rewarding and fun way! Please inquire with the Executive Board with any questions papresident@evcsnyc.org . Committee chairs are also (non-mandatory) members of the Executive Board.

Proposed Merger with PS34 Update by Bradley
Please read the Meeting Minutes HERE for the detailed re-cap. But the short of it is, there were 2 small working group meetings held since last June and there are several meetings planned for the next few weeks- including an open full-school town meeting for each school. It has been proposed that a basic decision whether to move forward discussing the idea or abandon it, will be made by both schools by Thanksgiving. The majority of our PA meeting was spent discussing this, so again, please read the minutes for more details.
