We’re Halfway there with Direct Family Contributions to the PA Fund

Thank you to all who have given – big and small! We are about halfway to our direct family donation goal. If you haven’t had a chance to give, we are hoping to hit this target by the end of 2018. Since last month we- the PA – has bought and updated classroom Smartboards, Marching band equipment and paid for a bunch of great field trips and enrichment programs going on at school. Donate Here

We need a Communications Co-chair to learn from our current chair, Hagit.

So fun and can be easily done remotely! A basic knowledge of tech stuff is helpful. Hagit will help train on the platforms we use. Hagit is stepping down next year and we need to tap her wealth of knowledge this year!

Diversity and Inclusion Committee has 2 new directives.

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee will be helping organize Affinity Groups. (Groups of parents with a common experience who would like to gather and share/ support each other) The two groups started so far are for LGBTQ families and Families with kids with special needs. If you are interested in joining one of these groups or would like start/ have another group started, please contact Tricia and Crystal at [email protected]

And Second, the D&I committee will begin organizing classroom “parent shares” of books or stories that celebrate or illuminate diversity of all kinds. More info to come, please contact them, if you would like to help this project.

*This D&I program is in conjunction with and expands on the school’s “Diversity of Classroom Libraries” initiative that started last year (“Windows and Mirrors”). In this, EVCS is buying hundreds of new books for the classroom libraries. The goal is to greatly increase the diversity of topics, characters, and authors that the students have access to in their classrooms. Last year the 3rd and 4th grades were stocked, this year the 2nd and 5th grades will be receiving new books and next year it will be PreK, K, and 1st.

EVCS Teachers and Staff participating in the NYC Learning Partners Program.

EVCS was chosen to be a part of a citywide public school program that partners very different schools to work together and learn from each other. A team of teachers with Bradley and Liz have been matched with a school in Queens and another school in Brooklyn. Their focus will be on the different ways schools assess their students.

Label Your Kids’ Stuff!! Name & School. And Looking for Parents to Help with Lost and Found.

In the next few weeks the Lost and Found will be consolidated in the Lobby. If you are missing something check there. James will be looking for a few parents to help each month to go through the L&F collection and help return it back to the owners. Please write names and EVCS in/on anything and everything. If you really want it back, include a phone number! Keep an eye out for the days and times to help James in the school’s Friday weekly.

Harvest Fest is November 21st (8:45am- 9:45am)

If you are new to EVCS. Harvest Fest is the culmination of a school wide food drive when the entire school community parades from EVCS to the food bank at Trinity Church on E 9th and Ave B. The parade is proceeded by a short School Wide Morning Meeting-like gathering in the Auditorium. More info to come on when and how to donate non-perishables.

Date set for The 2nd Battle of the District 1 family Bands- Feb. 10th.

If you are interested in joining the EVCS Parent/ Staff family band and think you can help EVCS get that trophy away from PS110, contact Bradley.

2018-19 SLT “Community Education Plan” goals to be emailed to all in next few weeks.

For our very first official PA meeting SLT Report, I read the totally wrong CEP goals. Yes, it was indeed the CEP goals for 2016. Your welcome. However, soon, Bradley will be emailing everyone this year’s actual goals. You might just have to come to next PA meeting to see what I decide to say for the 2nd official PA meeting SLT report.

Speaking of..

Next PA General meeting is November 28th, 8:40-10am.

That’s AFTER Thanksgiving- just think of that! Time is flying.

See you at The Fall Ball!!
