Fall Ball and PA meeting Recap

fall ball

Hello EVCS PA Member Families,

Once again, we parents stepped up and showed what a creative, fun, generous and devoted bunch we are. The Fall Ball was a huge success! There are way way too many people to thank, really, nearly every EVCS family and many of the staff, in some way, had a hand in this. From the planning, building, baking, cooking and decorating, to the crafts, games, trick-or-treating, dance party and the incredible haunted house, to serving food, manning tables, selling tickets, and cleaning up the whole thing, we certainly came through! Everybody who contributed deserves a giant thank you! We, especially, need to call out Hagit and Noel, our Events Co-Chairs, for taking the reigns on the entire beast. The kids had a blast, thank you, All!

We also thank MFTA, Material For The Arts Located in LIC.
MFTA is a recognized leader in waste reduction. Supporting non profits throughout the city. We are tremendously grateful for their work and support. Our event decor and detail could not happen without them!

A great group of pumpkins were entered in the Carving Contest. The 1st prize went to Nina in 4th Grade with her rat infested jack-o-lantern. 2nd place went to Alex Yakov in 5th Grade with his zombie pumpkin. Adele in 2nd grade and her sister Anna in K made a lit up jack-o-lantern and Yan from 3rd grade’s pumpkin had a giant spider crawling on top. Thank you so much to the contestants and to all the children and families that voted!

The Fall Ball simply would not happened without the efforts, great and small, of so many parents (or the financing from the PA General fund donate hereCheck out pictures from the day taken by Josephine Schiele

We had a brief General PA meeting on 10/26 (Minutes Here), thank you for all of you who were able to make it. Our next general meeting will be Wednesday, November 15th (this is a changed date!) at 8:40am.

For those who missed the October meeting, here’s what you need to know: We will be holding a “think-tank” ideas discussion at the next General PA meeting to discuss capital improvements. Basically, The PA has some funds that are allocated for capital purchases or improvements, ie. not for the yearly operating budget. Last year we bought kits to be used in the 4th and 5th grade robotics elective and we pitched in with other supporters for an irrigation system in the Tree of Knowing Garden to help keep the garden thriving over weekends and school breaks.

We are currently working to replace the water fountain units with new filtered ones that will have bottle filling spouts. We will continue this effort, but we need to explore other projects or purchases for this year. The basic provisions for our capital purchase fund are that whatever we spend the money on must benefit a large swath of students, last a minimum of 2 years, and not be apart our regular operating budget. Some ideas already put forward… update the classroom MacBooks and tablets, outdoor security cameras, sound abatement in the lunch room, new tables in the Tree of Knowing garden, renovating the bathrooms (out of our budget but a great idea!) etc.

Again, our next general meeting will be Wednesday, November 15th at 8:40am. If you can’t make this meeting feel free to email your ideas to PAPresident@evcsnyc.org

Also remember, we have a Pilates Class fundraiser happening every Tuesday morning. Kindergarten parent Luann is teaching a drop-in donation based Adult Pilates Mat class every Tuesday morning in the movement room (412) 8:30-9:15am. It’s pay-what-you-can with ALL donations going to the PA! Suggested $10, no experience necessary, bring a mat or there are a few available.
If you want to sign up for a weekly reminder for this classClick Hereand you will get a Monday evening reminder to join us for class each week as well as any relevant updates
