Dear Parents and Guardians,

Another full week and going strong!
This is one of the seasons when hair lice outbreaks seem to be most common. We want everyone to be proactive and aware. Lice are around and they are not particular to whom they keep company with. If you feel the need to learn a little about how to tackle these critters, please feel free to reach out to me.

School Wide Morning Meeting Message 9/18/2017

Dear EVCS Students,

Welcome to the first School-Wide morning meeting of the new school year!  Every other Monday morning our whole school community will get together to sing songs, share things we’ve been working on in music class, and think about what is most essential in our learning.  SWMM is one my favorite traditions we have at our school.

At each SWMM we will reflect on one of our core values.  These are the things that are most important to us, and are universal and relevant no matter what grade we are in.  Our core values represent what we stand for at EVCS.  Since it’s our first SWMM and it was a long summer, so some of us may have forgotten, let’s review what each of our core values is.

Our Core Value is kindness.

Kind people show concern for others, for our school and for the environment.  Kindness can be shown through compassion, empathy, generosity, and service.  Kindness is maybe the most important thing to have in a community. Continue reading

Mark your calendars!

Dear EVCS Family,

The first full week is almost in the books, and though we are still getting used to some new routines for arrival, dismissal and recess, things are starting to settle in. There are a few important things coming up that I want to make sure are on everyone’s radar.

School-Wide Morning Meeting

This coming Monday we will have our first School-Wide Morning Meeting of the year. For our new parents – SWMM is one of our very favorite traditions. Every other Monday morning our entire school gets together in the auditorium shortly after drop off for a sing along. Parents are welcome (encouraged!) to come, sit with their child and sing loud and proud with us. The vibes are guaranteed to be good.

Curriculum Night

This coming Tuesday evening is Curriculum Night. This is where you will hear from your child’s teacher about all of the awesome stuff your kid will learn and experience this year, and you can have all your questions about curriculum, homework, snacks, field trips… answered. We’ll start gathering in the lobby around 5:30 to mingle and schmooze, and opening remarks will be in the auditorium at 6:00. Unfortunately, childcare will NOT be provided for this event. Sorry about that – please try to line up a sitter.

LICE ALERT Pro-Active Action!

Dear Parents,

Many of you may already know that EVCS proactively tries to prevent lice and nits among the student body. Lice are a part of public school life. Please help by being aware.

Being independently diligent is the only way we can keep them under control. It is in our own best interest to be aware and take action. If you find that your child has lice, we ask that you please let your teacher and the parent coordinator know. When there are multiple cases noted in a class, we call in technicians to do a formal lice check at school.

The following link provides information on DOE’s official “head lice” policy and how to detect and eradicate nits and lice should you find it among your children: Head Lice Policy (All schools)
