Recap of Wednesday PA Meeting

Hi EVCS Families,

Thank you to everyone who came yesterday morning’s PA meeting! For those of you who couldn’t make it, here is a brief re-cap. The full meeting minutes will be posted to the website in the next few days.

The next “Between the World and MeCoffee with Bradley” will be next Tuesday,1/24, 5:30pm.

It will be an open conversation about the book Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. This #1 New York Times Best seller is written as a series of letters to the author’s teenage son as an examination of race in America. Reading the book is encouraged but by no means necessary to be a part of this discussion.

• For PreK-K, there will only be one “set” of activities per day in which all PreK-K-ers will participate on that day.

Information for the Women’s March this Saturday in NYC and DC.

For those planning or interested in going to either of these marches and would like to go with EVCS families here are the details:

For the NYC March:

The march is organized to have groups start in staggered time slots to ensure a steady flow of marchers. A group of EVCS families will be joining the Rude Mechanical Orchestra at 12 pm at 47th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues (in the little park on the north side of the street across from the Y). The Orchestra is scheduled to march at 12:45 pm. They invite everyone to bring musical instruments, especially horns, kazoos, other fun wind instruments if you have them! No musical training required!
General info for the NYC march here

The weather in NYC is looking good at about 50 degrees, but make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes, charged cellphone, water and snacks, warm-enough clothes and whatever else you need (sunglasses, medication).

Sign Making: Fourth graders are hosting sign making in Elana and Maia’s classroom (room 405) on Friday, 3:15 – 4 pm, which will include a large EVCS Families banner. If you would like to join the poster-making, please let us know by Thursday so that we have enough materials. Also, keep in mind that NYC does not allow signage on poles, sticks or handles -cardboard tubes are okay.

For the DC march:

EVCS families are also welcome to join and march with The Rude Mechanical Orchestra

They plan to meet 8:30-9AM on the steps of the American History Smithsonian, at 1300 Constitution Ave., and then they will join RAHA and Gabriela, Iranian and Filipino feminist collectives, elsewhere around 9:30. Contact Jen Nessel

Next month’s PA meeting will be 2/15, It will be a morning meeting.
