A Conversation About Gender Expression/Identity Monday, June 6 8:30 am – 10:00 am

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 10.55.23 AM

Dear Parents and Guardians

Please join us for a conversation about gender expression
and identity as an introduction to an interactive learning experience
that our students will participate in this fall 2016.

This conversation will be led by Jean Malpas, Director of the Gender and Families Project at the Ackerman Institute for the Family.

We will explore the role of gender in our children’s journey of self-discovery, the impact of gender stereotypes on kids’ emotional and social development, how our own habits of language may influence our children’s experience of gender identity, and much, much more.

As we strive to raise children who take care of themselves
and the people around them, who understand viscerally the value of inclusivity, and who have the tools to think critically about their highly mediated world, we are very eager to consider this issue with all of you.

We encourage all parents to attend.
Please rsvp online for refreshment planning or contact James at jamesevcspc@gmail.com if you plan to join us or have any questions.

We will have coffee and breakfast in the cafeteria starting at 8:30, the discussion at 8:45am in the auditorium.

AfterSchool | The Last Long Letter

First up, uber appreciation to our own 5th graders who held a bake sale earlier this month to raise funds for AfterSchool’s long-standing scholarship initiative. How ‘bout them shiny civic apples? Outstanding!

Big broad thank you’s to Melanie Kletter and Larry Mirsky for leading the charge in launching the AfterSchool Family Survey. Please take a few moments to help us improve AfterSchool: http://goo.gl/forms/wTOdgNqTZJLafWJC3. Also to active AfterSchool Advisory Committee members as well as Bradley, James (Bromberg) and evcs’ resident statistician and survey wizard Naumi Feldman for advising me last October in preparation.

Pixelated hugs for photographers and evcs parents Larry Bercow, Julie Harwood, Bill Bourbeau and Jonathan Lefkowitz for capturing some of AfterSchool’s life and spirit. Please scroll down for some good reading under AfterSchool’s Photo Op – Bios section to learn more details about this particular instance of astounding talent coursing through our community.

Summer is fast approaching and there are still spaces left for New York International Children’s Film Festival Filmmaking Camps. Kids will learn all aspects of filmmaking – storyboarding, set creation, camerawork, lighting, sound design, and more – to create their own short film.

Classes explore different mediums from claymation to paper cut out to hand-drawn animation. Oldest students (entering grades 6-9), can join a Masterclass, which will work in the style of renown filmmaker Wes Anderson.

Camps take during week long sessions
from July 5-9, July 18-22, and July 25-29. Continue reading

Silent Auction Vs. Online Auction

Let me make it simple for you – There are 2 different auctions.

Silent Auction: Only available during the Gala event tomorrow. You can preview items in our catalogue. You cannot bid online for these items.

Online Auction: Selection of items available ONLY online (not going to be available during the Gala event). The bidding is online.
