Did you miss our email?

Guess what? The PA Family Contribution goal is at just over half our annual goal! We know that you’re juggling a lot in this season, so this is just a reminder.
Do you shop on amazon?
Did you need to send your tax-deductible gift before year end?
Have you checked to find if your employer will match your amount?
Do you know anyone else who’d love to help our great cause AND reduce their tax liability? (Think entrepreneurs/self-employed, business owners, and philanthropist -aka grandparents.)

We welcome and need your donations of any size.

Here’s a quick recap of a few things your contribution has and will continue to support: Theater in Education, laptops for enrichment, building-wide wellness program, Tree of Knowing Garden, family and parent events, and outreach for diversity. We applaud you for choosing to make a difference for our school and community. Go to http://evcsnyc.org/donate/

Happy Holidays,

School Wide Morning Meeting Message 12/14/2015

December 14, 2015

Dear EVCS Students,

Welcome to School-wide Morning Meeting!  This our last full week of school before we break for the holidays – and our last School-wide Morning Meeting of 2015!

As we get ready to end the year and start a new year, it’s a good time to reflect back on our hopes and dreams we identified at the beginning of the year.  Some of us have already met those goals and are ready to create new ones.  Some of us are ready to fulfill our goals very soon, and some of us are thinking of new strategies to get back on track to meet our goals.  Let’s all start 2016 with renewed energy to do whatever it takes to make our hopes and dreams a reality.  And as we think about setting new goals, I want everyone to be courageous, push yourself to do something you didn’t think you could do, and take responsible risks.  Reach for the stars and you will achieve great things!  risks

Let’s make the last days of 2015 great ones!  Have a great day everyone.

Love,  Bradley

School Wide Morning Meeting Message 12/2/2015

December 2, 2015

Dear EVCS Students,

Welcome to School-wide Morning Meeting!  I hope everyone enjoyed their well-deserved vacation last week.

Yesterday was the start of a new month and a new Habit of Mind.  Throughout the month of December we will be focusing on Taking Responsible Risks.

When we are in unfamiliar territory in our learning sometimes we can feel uncertain, confused or insecure.  In these moments we must not let the fear of failure prevent us risksfrom taking risks and trying new things.  People who have embodied this Habit of Mind understand that risk taking is a necessary part of our growth and they have learned how to view their mistakes as places for learning.  The picture we associate with taking responsible risks is of hands reaching for the stars.  This reminds us that if we want to achieve new and great things, we need to have courage and be willing to take risks!

Be courageous and take risks in your learning, and maybe you’ll get a shout out at our next SWMM!  Have a great day everyone.

Love,  Bradley

School Wide Morning Meeting Message 11/16/2015

November 16, 2015

Dear EVCS Students,

Welcome to School-wide morning meeting!

Some of you may have noticed that the bulletin board in the 4th floor hallway near our main office is all about the Habits of Mind.  Each month our friends in the 5th grade have been decorating the bulletin board with helpful information about the Habit of Mind of the Month.  Please be sure to take a look at the bulletin board to learn more about this month’s Habit of Mind and to get a preview of which Habits of Mind are coming up in the following months.  Thanks very much to the 5th graders for their beautiful work!

School Wide Morning Meeting Message 11/2/2015

November 2, 2015

Welcome to School-Wide Morning Meeting!  I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween!  It was great seeing so many of our families in their wonderful costumes at our Fall Ball.  Huge thanks to all of the parents who helped to organize the Fall Ball this year, especially James Bromberg our Parent Coordinator and Gia’s dad George for putting the whole event together and Rachael’s dad Eric for running the haunted house.

November’s Habit of Mind is Listening with Understanding and Empathy.  When we listen with understanding and empathy we devote energy to understanding each other’s thoughts and feelings.  When we are listening well we can paraphrase another’s ideas accurately, build upon them, clarify them, give examples of them, and even challenge those ideas.  Listening with understanding and empathy doesn’t mean we have to agree with others’ ideas, but that we can see things through their perspective. Some psychologists believe that the ability to listen to another person, to empathize with, and to understand their point of view is one of the highest forms of intelligent behavior.
