Be a class parent

Dear EVCS Families,

We hope you are all having a relaxing summer. In a few weeks we will welcome back another school year! We’d like to introduce ourselves and extend a warm hello to our new families. I am Julie Harwood, and I have two children at EVCS: Asher, who will be going into 3rd grade and Ellie, who will be entering 1st grade. And I am Jenny Kronenfeld, and my twins Alex(andra) and Jesse will both be entering 3rd grade this fall.

We serve as the Class Parent Co-Chairs on the Parent Association and would like to make a pitch to all of you about volunteering to be a class parent. Class Parents support your child’s teacher and serve as a liaison between your teacher and the other families in your class.

This support can take many different forms, including organizing snack schedules, planning class trips and parties, writing a class newsletter and organizing teacher celebrations for the holidays. You also can help organize the Sponsor-a-Classroom fundraising effort to ensure that each classroom has the funds the teachers need for special projects and other activities. Being a Class Parent is an excellent way to volunteer for school, especially for those of you limited on time — it is up to you how much time you are able to contribute. Most classes have between 2-3 class parents to share the responsibility.

Please read the brochure FOR MORE INFO and feel free to email us with any questions at classparents@evcsnyc.org.

If you decide to volunteer, contact your teacher and please drop us an email so we can put you on the Class Parent Google Group, where I will share important information from the PA to distribute to your classes, as well as provide a place for class parents to talk to each other, share ideas, and ask questions.

Warm regards,
Julie Harwood and Jenny Kronenfeld
