Year-end thanks from the Events Committee

Dear EVCS community,

The Events Committee would like to say a giant year-end THANK YOU for the unprecedented engagement of our parent and faculty body at this year’s EVCS “fun-raising” events.

We know Halloween was a lifetime ago but just to recap: The Fall Ball raised over $3,000 in support of arts programming and we threw a great party for our kids. We cannot thank everyone enough for their dedication and generosity. Even an October snowstorm couldn’t stop this parent body from making this the most successful Fall Ball ever!

For all the work of getting the materials to create and run the haunted house, we thank Jacqui, Russ, Hunter, Rory, Dennis, Eddie, Sean, Christian, Cresta, Vava, Alex and Sara Jane – you did a magnificent job building it, decorating and then sweating in it as ghosts and goblins scaring everyone who dared enter. Thanks, as ever, to Martha, Mary and Jacqui for their planning expertise. A score of parents and faculty stayed late on Friday and/or came early on Saturday, braving the elements, to help set up: Brad, Terry, Allison, Michael, Sean, Noriko, Youichi, Tazeen, Crystal, Sarah Jane, Evelyn, Liz, Roberta and others, thank you! A shout out to Debbie (and Solomon!) and a number of other heroic parents who jumped in at a moment’s notice to keep the games running smoothly. The photo booth was a big hit, Larry, and we know you couldn’t have done that without the help from James, Neil and Tonja. Thanks to our 60-second portrait artist, Jeanne. The cotton candy — Anne and Simon — was another huge hit, with long lines weaving through our crafts area. Speaking of crafts, kudos to Mary for overseeing that end of things, and to Melissa for her cupcake decorating magic, thanks to Marlene, Hilary, Leah, Denise, Caroline, Evelyn and many others who kept that crazy scene from tipping into total chaos. Our lighting and music was just right – thanks, Nick! Thanks to Tricia and Helen for heading the rummage sale and Dia, in her gorgeous queen costume for selling raffle tickets — one of the most successful we’ve ever had. For everyone who donated dishes and goodies and to Holly and Nadine for organizing, we are grateful and they were yummy! For our roaming photographer Julie, who captured it all candidly for posterity! For the set-up committee, to the door people — Amy, Camille, Kei, Crystal, clean up committee — Sommer, Tazeen, Luis, Howard, and all of you who pitched in anonymously.

In case you missed it at the time, here’s the link to Julie’s wonderful photos.

And then, almost before we could catch our breath, came the Jubilee! Another smash success due to the record high turn out of parents, and the wonderful donation of auction items. The Jubilee raised over $6,000 this year, in support of adopt-a-classroom. Thank you to Mary for spearheading that wildly successful effort. Thanks to all the parents who donated auction items, truly too many to mention. Thanks to the Edge Bar (owned by EVCS parents — one of many good reasons to frequent the joint) for hosting us so generously.

If you were there, you might find yourself in Jayne’s great photos.

We are so grateful for the vibrancy of this EVCS community!

Next up is the Spring Gala! But first — enjoy the Winter Break!!

Warmly,
Jayne and Moira
