Dear EVCS Families,
Hold on to your hats – June is a whirlwind. Sometimes people refer to the school year “winding down” but the truth is it feels like we wind up all spring, especially in June, and hurtle towards the last day with a head of steam. Suffice it to say, it’s a busy time! But it’s very important that we take the time at the end of the year to reflect on our work and experiences.
One of the most resonant themes explored this year, not only within our own school community but throughout District 1 and the city as a whole, has been diversity. EVCS is a truly diverse community in many senses, but our demographics are quite dissimilar to the District averages. Unfortunately there is a trend in our district, which uses a system of “pure choice” in the admissions protocol, of clustering according to race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status. For some powerful infographics that help illustrate this clustering take a look here. Continue reading
As most of you are aware, since Robin retired as Principal of EVCS, Bradley has been acting as Interim Acting Principal. Many parents have asked what that means, whether he automatically becomes principal, does he want to become principal, what is the process, etc. We hope to alleviate some of these concerns with this email detailing the selection process for Principal.
The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a committee of school administrators, staff, and parents tasked with creating and evaluating EVCS curriculum and educational goals. The SLT writes and revises school policy, cooperatively plans the school year, and co-writes the Comprehensive Education Plan at the end of each year, among other projects.
As a member of the SLT, you help to evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s educational programs and their impact on student achievement. You also serve as a voice for the different members of our school community to ensure that all voices are heard regarding the needs of our students. You help to shape the educational goals of our school, and are responsible for communicating SLT business to the entire parent body.
If you are interested in what our children learn in the classroom, serving on the SLT may be the most impactful thing you can do at EVCS.
The SLT meets on the last Thursday of every month from 3:30-5:30pm. All discussions within the SLT are confidential. There is a small stipend of $200 from the DOE for serving on the SLT.
If you are interested in the position, please email Elizabeth Puccini at email@example.com.
