EVCS PA NEEDS YOU

Screen Shot 2017-10-18 at 3.50.14 PM

Dear Families,

The school year finally feels underway, kids are adjusted, routines have been established and the Fall weather has arrived. We hope you have had a chance to make it to a School Wide Morning Meeting, if not, please consider making some time to come to the next one because there is really no better way to start your week, the calendar is HERE.

We also want to let you know that the EVCS Parent Association is in the middle of our biggest fundraiser of the year. It’s not an event. You don’t have to get dressed up or find a babysitter or get on stage and sing (that is coming later).

Please contribute today

But YOU do need to take action. Right now.

General PA (and Fall Ball) meeting Recap

Hi EVCS Families,

In case you had to miss our General PA meeting last Wed. (and the quick Fall Ball meeting after) here’s a recap:

We approved our 2017-18 PA Budget!
This year the PA will be helping fund so many great things at school. The South Street Seaport Partnership, the Recess enhancement program, Dancing classrooms, Chess, Alvin Ailey, Rock Band and much more. Also a big change this year, the PA will be funding the individual Classroom Accounts (aka SAC) which will pay for each classroom’s in-class project work and field trips. In previous years these accounts were funded directly by the classes’ families, this year all classrooms will be funded equitably by the whole PA. This is lining up to be a great and exciting year for our kids!

That said, we, the PA, are called upon to raise these funds. We will do this through direct family contributions, grade-wide bake sales, our fun annual Events, grant applications and other smaller fundraising ventures. We discussed at the meeting that the best way to contribute directly to the Family Fund is by check (or online bank transfer), to save on fees.

We also want to remind families that whether or not you are able to contribute money, the PA always needs contributions of your input, time and sweat equity at all of our events and sales. There are many many ways to help support our school.

We elected 4 new members to our School Leadership Team and we voted in a Co-Treasurer.
Thank you to Anne Buovolo, Cresta Kruger, Melanie Kletter, and Katie Pawluk for joining the SLT this year and representing all of us parents. And thank-you to Kama Geary for stepping up to help with the PA book-keeping!

Help for Puerto Rico.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (10/3 & 10/4) of this week EVCS will be collecting much needed goods for Puerto Rico.
Please bring donations of Diapers • Baby Food • Batteries • First Aid Supplies • Feminine hygiene products. *Only new and unopened items can be accepted. Parent volunteers (Ron B. and Jenny K.) will be stationed with vehicles near the double gates at the end of the closed school yard, towards Avenue C. Once collected, donations will be brought to the Fire House on East 2nd Street.

Hello from the EVCS Parent Association

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 12.27.27 PM

With the Summer Recess clock rapidly running out, we hope you can squeeze in a little more rest and fun in before the first day of school. To help with this, we can all be thankful that EVCS has taken care of all the school-supplies shopping this year. Not only saving us families time but also money!

Speaking of the stuff… This is a great time to take care of making your annual family donation to the PA General Fund*. Go online to donateor save us the PayPal fee and bring in a check- payable to The Parent Association of EVCS.

The financial support we, the PA, contribute is incredibly crucial to so much of the great educational experience our kids get at EVCS. Our ask is for each family to directly give $650, but please consider contributing however much you can. If a lump donation is not possible, you can break it up into 10 automatic monthly installments. No matter how large or small the amount, each and every donation makes a difference! Some of what our PA will help fund this year is our kids’ in-class projects, field trips, music, art, the enrichment programs (including the recess enrichment) and much more.

Prizes and certificates are coming home this week. I want to congratulate our top earners who each won a Barnes and Noble gift card: Emma Waldroop, Cuin Waldroop and Emmett Sparks. Parents please look out for all the prizes in your kids’ backpacks. If your child turned in a reading log and did not get a prize bag and certificate, please let me know ASAP and I will correct the mistake. (aleegordon@gmail.com)

We hope everyone has enjoyed reading books for this year’s READING OLYMPICS! We are so proud of all our wonderful readers. This is the last week to complete reading logs and collect donations from sponsors. Maybe use this week to post (or email) a picture or video of your child telling all about the books they have read and ask for donations to support our PA. The link below can be used to collect donations online:

Remember, please give sponsor sheets and donations to your child’s teacher by Monday, April 3.

Reading Olympics – Send online link to your sponsor

Reading-Olympics 1

I hope you are all enjoying reading with your kids or watching them read independently for the 2017 READING OLYMPICS!

Sometimes getting sponsors is the hardest part. Consider sending emails to family and friends or posting in Facebook. Maybe have your child make a video about the books they are reading and explain how sponsors can donate $1 per book or hour of reading. Here is the link you can give to anyone who would like to sponsor your child. The money will go straight to the PA and your child will get credit for the donation.

Two weeks to go!

Happy reading,
