EVCS Annual Spring Gala is 18 days away!

EVCS Annual Spring Gala is 18 days away! (April 28th )

7-11:30 PM at the Grand Hall of St. Mary’s Church

The Gala is the PA’s biggest and most critical fundraiser of the year. We aim to raise more than 25% of our annual budget in one night. The money raised goes to benefit and enhance all of our kids educational experience at EVCS. We depend on the event to raise these funds and the kids are counting on us!

So, what we need right now are Silent Auction Item Donations.

The range of popular auction items and good sellers is wide and extensive. Click here to download a donation form to print or here, for the online donation link. Here are some categories and ideas to help get you brainstorming:

Feel free to ask us about any item if you aren’t sure it’s a good fit.

Gala Silent Auction Items are needed ASAP!

Hi Friends,

Now that you all have RSVPed to the Gala (you did, didn’t you? ‘Cause if not, click here), we need you to step-up and bring in auction items! And when we say “items” we mean anything you’d like to see in at a silent auction, and when we say “bring”, we mean ask anyone and everyone you know for those items and have them fill out the online donation form.

One of the simplest ways to solicit auction items is to ask businesses in your neighborhood that you frequently visit and most are more than happy to support their local schools and also get the word out about their establishments, you just need to ask.

Before the break, your child will bring home a printed copy of the donation letter along with a donation form but if you want to get a jump start, you can download it here.

You may have some questions like, ‘I’ve never been to the Gala before, what kind of items are you looking for?’ You can find answers in our FAQ page and if you don’t find what you are looking for, drop us an email at parents@evcsnyc.org. Your questions will be answered super quick. Promise.

So put it on your ‘Today To-Do list’, not on your ‘Save-It-For-Later list’.

We all counting on YOU!

Thank you,
The Events Committee

D1 Battle of the Family Bands

Dear EVCS Family,

I really hope you’ll join us for what is guaranteed to be a memorable event. This Sunday marks the first (hopefully annual) District 1 Battle of the Family Bands at the world famous Bowery Ballroom.

There will be four schools participating in the event: The Earth School, PS 110, Orchard Collegiate Academy, and of course EVCS. We have a fantastic MC named Emily Panic (former touring member of bands Foxygen and Phenomenal Handclap band, as well as the host of Max Fish’s Sunday Roast Comedy nights), and we will have a panel of celebrity judges, TBA. The winning band will get to take home a fabulous trophy and will have District 1 bragging rights – both of which I want desperately.

The EVCS Family Band has been rehearsing and I think we have a real shot at D1 glory. The band is made up of parents Martha Hornthal, Cresta Kruger, Steve Shiffman, Brad Worrell, Kevin Colden, James Askew, PT Walkley, and Kelland Thomas, music teacher Terry Campbell, and yours truly. Come support us!

Here are the details:

Sunday, March 4, 2018
The Bowery Ballroom: 6 Delancey Street
Doors: 4pm / Show 4:30pm -7:30pm
Tickets: $20
Adults Only (21+)

You can buy tickets from James in the yard (cash only), at the venue, or with PayPal here.

We realize that 4:30 is kind of a lame time for a rock show, but Sunday night also happens to be the Oscars, and we want to make sure everyone is home in time to catch the red carpet action. And please note that this event is just for the grown ups.

The Battle of the Family Bands is a fund raiser for all of the schools involved, but more importantly it is a community building event intended to build bridges between schools in our District. And it’s going to be really fun(ny). I hope to see you there!

Fall Ball and PA meeting Recap

fall ball

Hello EVCS PA Member Families,

Once again, we parents stepped up and showed what a creative, fun, generous and devoted bunch we are. The Fall Ball was a huge success! There are way way too many people to thank, really, nearly every EVCS family and many of the staff, in some way, had a hand in this. From the planning, building, baking, cooking and decorating, to the crafts, games, trick-or-treating, dance party and the incredible haunted house, to serving food, manning tables, selling tickets, and cleaning up the whole thing, we certainly came through! Everybody who contributed deserves a giant thank you! We, especially, need to call out Hagit and Noel, our Events Co-Chairs, for taking the reigns on the entire beast. The kids had a blast, thank you, All!

We also thank MFTA, Material For The Arts Located in LIC.
MFTA is a recognized leader in waste reduction. Supporting non profits throughout the city. We are tremendously grateful for their work and support. Our event decor and detail could not happen without them!

A great group of pumpkins were entered in the Carving Contest. The 1st prize went to Nina in 4th Grade with her rat infested jack-o-lantern. 2nd place went to Alex Yakov in 5th Grade with his zombie pumpkin. Adele in 2nd grade and her sister Anna in K made a lit up jack-o-lantern and Yan from 3rd grade’s pumpkin had a giant spider crawling on top. Thank you so much to the contestants and to all the children and families that voted!

General PA (and Fall Ball) meeting Recap

Hi EVCS Families,

In case you had to miss our General PA meeting last Wed. (and the quick Fall Ball meeting after) here’s a recap:

We approved our 2017-18 PA Budget!
This year the PA will be helping fund so many great things at school. The South Street Seaport Partnership, the Recess enhancement program, Dancing classrooms, Chess, Alvin Ailey, Rock Band and much more. Also a big change this year, the PA will be funding the individual Classroom Accounts (aka SAC) which will pay for each classroom’s in-class project work and field trips. In previous years these accounts were funded directly by the classes’ families, this year all classrooms will be funded equitably by the whole PA. This is lining up to be a great and exciting year for our kids!

That said, we, the PA, are called upon to raise these funds. We will do this through direct family contributions, grade-wide bake sales, our fun annual Events, grant applications and other smaller fundraising ventures. We discussed at the meeting that the best way to contribute directly to the Family Fund is by check (or online bank transfer), to save on fees.

We also want to remind families that whether or not you are able to contribute money, the PA always needs contributions of your input, time and sweat equity at all of our events and sales. There are many many ways to help support our school.

We elected 4 new members to our School Leadership Team and we voted in a Co-Treasurer.
Thank you to Anne Buovolo, Cresta Kruger, Melanie Kletter, and Katie Pawluk for joining the SLT this year and representing all of us parents. And thank-you to Kama Geary for stepping up to help with the PA book-keeping!

Help for Puerto Rico.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (10/3 & 10/4) of this week EVCS will be collecting much needed goods for Puerto Rico.
Please bring donations of Diapers • Baby Food • Batteries • First Aid Supplies • Feminine hygiene products. *Only new and unopened items can be accepted. Parent volunteers (Ron B. and Jenny K.) will be stationed with vehicles near the double gates at the end of the closed school yard, towards Avenue C. Once collected, donations will be brought to the Fire House on East 2nd Street.
