TRU Movmnt Afterschool

Mission Statement

TRU Movmnt Afterschool is about allowing our children to explore, apply and play with Tangible, Relevant and Universal movement patterns. We’re about helping our children develop movement curiosity and creativity, understanding that they are only limited by their imagination. We at TRU Movmnt wish to foster a lifelong love for movement.

Activities:
• Speed of Light Track Club (SOLTC)
• Sport Sword (Martial Arts)
• Fight Play (Fight Choreography)

Speed of Light Track Club
The goal of Track is to develop the athletic potential of your children through various activities and training methods. We want our young people to enjoy their athletic endeavors and to grow into strong, competent athletes. The focus will be on learning how to run properly, addressing running form, lower limb stability, and strength development. Furthermore, your children will develop a love for the art of running. Track is a semi-competitive as well as a recreational club. Throughout the season there will be events of various different levels that are open to all who wish to compete. No one is required to compete.

*SOLTC meets three days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Sport Sword
Sport Sword is based on the Japanese art “Chanbara”, created nearly 50 years ago. Chanbara is heavily influenced by the traditional Japanese sword arts of Iaido and Kendo. In Sport Sword, we use foam swords to teach martial concepts such as focus, discipline, respect, technique, and confidence. The primary focus of Sport Sword is to teach your child the importance of self-control, and the proper and safe use of the soft swords, allowing students to train at full speed.

*Sport Sword meets twice a week on Monday and Friday.

Fight Play
Using swordplay the focus will be on learning how to stage a choreographed fight scene. Through Fight Play, students will learn how to work cooperatively with partners to tell a compelling movement story. Through this, they will develop greater awareness, timing, patience, and confidence in their spatial understanding of their surrounding environment. The skills your children will learn will culminate in an end-of-season performance piece that will be shared with the families.

*Fight Play meets twice a week on Monday and Friday.

Thanks, Coach Aswad

Final After-school survey – Your response is needed

Dear EVCS families,

As this school year comes to an end we would like to ask you to complete one more survey to aid the AfterSchool@evcs Advisory Committee in identifying the level of satisfaction families have with regard to the MMCC afterschool program at EVCS. All responses are anonymous. We are looking for input from families who use Afterschool@evcs and from those who don’t. The survey is similar to the one sent in the Spring, with a few added components. We appreciate you taking the time to help with this so we can continue to monitor families level of satisfaction with the MMCC after-school program at EVCS. This survey should take no more than a few minutes to complete. The survey will be close in one week on May 24th. Please click here.

Thank you for your time,

AfterSchool@evcs Advisory Committee

AfterSchool Spring ’17 | we’re still open if you are…

98b9eb1e-bd26-4cac-8738-2cea97908513

Hello Families – I hope all is well in your universe. AfterSchool’s universe feels much the same with a different spin or orbit to it.
So we’re paying close attention to the “pull” of some of our courses – both tried and trusted and new favorites.

The following classes are currently still open but need a boost and some TLC: Gardening, Doll Making, Percussion, Harmony, Beginners Karate, DJ Rock & Soul School, Book-Make-Curate, Elementary Drums, Studio Dance and FRIDAY’S On Cue (Theater Production).
Heads up that those classes which were not mentioned may only have limited slots if any and that STEM courses are, generally, very full.

Take a moment to read through the new pricing (all inclusive flat fee of $300 per weekday from 2:55 – 5:55PM for approx 16 sessions), set up, dismissal times and policies here to orient yourself around this latest evolution.

If you’re interested in registering, please take a look at the class description and bios here for more information as well as our handy weekly mini calendar of scheduled AfterSchool courses for your planning convenience, then call in your registration at our new organizational partner (MMCC) at 718-882-4000 ext. 0 by asking for Mariah. She will be able to double check availability on any course so feel free to inquire! And please have a credit card handy for payment.

Thank you for investing in the longevity of this family resource!!!

All my best,

Camille Marlow, Director
